The Transformation of Orchard

October 27, 2010

Orchard originally opened in Boston (Kevin Coakley turf) during the summer of 2006. They quickly outgrew their Mission Hill location and after nearly a year of renovating, they moved into their new 5,000 sq foot location in the Allston area. If you’re not in Boston, at least take some time to visit their website. If it’s from Orchard it’s always fresh. Below are some of the images from the restoration. Click here for more.

Broadcast Yo Self: Marcell Herd (OCTOBER CHAMPION)

October 26, 2010

Marcell has class (check the nonchalant adjustment of the spectacles after each trick,) and enough of it that he stood out to become the October winner of Broadcast Yo Self!. We basically sift through our submissions each month (to submit, simply send us your YouTube or Vimeo link on this page and put “RADCAST” in the subject line) and choose one unlucky brute to partake in the awesomeness that will be known throughout cyber eternity as Broadcast YoSelf. It’s certainly not going to make anybody famous, but we all enjoy some skate inspiration. In addition to the dishonor of appearing on, the winning skater each month will likely start getting phone calls from potential department store sponsors and babes in burlap bikinis. Check back in a few to see next month’s winner. Ya herd?

Los Logos Book

October 22, 2010

Broadcast Brand Manager and Art Director Kelly D Williams has some work in the newest Los Logos volume. From Gestalen, “Compass [Working title: Los Logos 5] aims to be not only an archive of current design, but to educate designers and clients about which approaches make the best fit for a given project–an issue that is especially important in a challenging economy in which innovation and identity are essential. Like its predecessors, this fifth edition in the Los Logos series offers a definitive overview of current developments and advancements in logo design with the high-quality selection of up-to-the-minute work that readers have come to expect. But with a larger format and more text features, the focus of this book has been further sharpened from a comprehensive documentation to a competent classification of prevailing tendencies in design.” 408 Pages, full color, hardcover, 21 x 26 cm.

Halloween Day: Washington Street Fundraiser

October 19, 2010

The gentlemen at are always pitching in for the local skate community. This Halloween you can have fun and help raise some funds for the Washington Street skatepark.  According to Wikipedia, “Halloween is first attested in the 16th century and represents a Scottish variant of the fuller All-Hallows-Even (“evening”), that is, the night before All Hallows Day. Up through the early 20th century, the spelling “Hallowe’en” was frequently used, eliding the “v” and shortening the word.” Who’s going to step up and win the Best Trick in A Costume Contest? Be there.
