Transworld Skate & Create

August 24, 2010

We always look forward to the TWS Skate & Create video competition. This year we gotta give props to the crew at Etnies for recreating the indoor World Industries park and filming a fun session in Hi-8. Broadcaster Shiloh Greathouse had a nice little cameo. It’ll make you want to check your calendar and count back to 1993. This is one of the many reasons why we love skateboarding. And we love this, too. Coverage courtesy of Transworld & Etnies.

Brian Lotti: Now, Later, and The Chrome Ball Incident

August 16, 2010

Brian Lotti is a first-class guy. A pure skate technician. How many other skaters have received this type of praise from the one and only John Cardiel? If you haven’t already seen Brian’s part in Now N Later, or if it has been a while since you’ve watched it, we suggest you sit your arse down and study the skills of the proprietor of the big spin. Yep, that’s right: Mr. Lottery brought you the Bigspin like Mugatu brought you the piano key necktie. The reason we mention this all here is because Lotti is the subject of the latest Chrome Ball Interview. Style never fades, rust never sleeps. Man, lately I’m feeling just about as cushiony as the citizen on patrol lady in this photo.

Million, Billion, Trillion, Centillion

August 14, 2010

If this is the level of skating that is passed off as merely “worth mentioning… but honorably”, I think the future is looking mighty bright. Or on the other hand, maybe it is a sign of skate society reaching a dark zenith that it has reached before, prior to collapse. Like the idea that a star is brightest right before it explodes into a million pieces from overcombustion. Sometimes I pretend that because of the complexity and advancement of trick skating, the entire concept of maneuver-based skating will eat itself and digress (or progress) back to the initial skateboarding palette of carving, knee cruising, and miniature ollies, once again establishing the truth that we are all just a bunch of kids looking for something fun to do (regardless of how long we have been skating or how “good” we are at doing it).  Maybe I am just thinking too much and I should just enjoy this rad montage from our friends at SLAP Magazine, featuring the talents of a hundreds of skaters fighting for the title of One In A Million. Enjoy your weekend.

Introducing Billy Davenport (You’ll Want to Remember This Name)

April 23, 2010

While the government has been preparing to launch the X-37B top secret space craft, Broadcast has been preparing to launch its own form of secret weapon: Billy Davenport. Zoom back to last weekend: the First Annual Make-A-Wish Skate Jam at Hollenbeck Skate Park. Some of the attendees were Eric Koston, Lance Mountain, Darrel Stanton, Mark Appleyard, Steve Berra, Chris Pastras, Jeremy Wray, Gareth Stehr, Danny Supa, Johnny Layton, Malcom Watson, Theotis Beasley, Andrew Pott, Levi Brown, and many others. Even P-Rod and Sheckler showed up for some interviews, but I ain’t gonna talk about those cats. The one really worth mentioning is Broadcast Am Billy Davenport. Before the contest, friends of Billy already knew that he ripped; but after the contest, he has become a household name amongst not only those who were in attendance, but also anyone who has received word of his refrigerator-high frontslide flips off the wedge, bigspin boardslides down the rail, nollie heelflips, long-arse front crooks, quick and smooth back blunts, yada yada. He was gobbling it all up like some kind of hungry cereal box mascot, and despite the aforementioned VIP list, all eyes were on Billy Davenport for most of the day. Photos are courtesy of whatever website we pulled them from (can’t remember). Thanks guys, and congrats to Billy for receiving the unprompted but well deserved Overall Ripper Award. Overdose: Connor Getzlaff

April 5, 2010

There are a few new skaters out there that have a calm yet aggressive style which somehow makes you want to go skate every time you see it on video. Connor Getzlaff is definitely one of those skaters.  His crew used to call him “Skooter”, and it’s obvious that he has grown out of his nickname. Watch his latest video part to see why Broadcast is backing him.

Broadcast Am Shane Cox Doing It Proper In Portland

March 16, 2010

“Last week I took my first trip up to Portland to visit a lady friend for a few days. Despite it raining most of the trip I was lucky enough to find some time to skate.  I was really stoked to skate Burnside cause I’ve been wanting to go there since I was about 12.  I could only skate maybe half of the park cause the other half was wet and subsequently slippery as shit, but it was awesome just to be there.  The fullpipe shot is at Pier Park.  All of the parks up there are so much more interesting than So-Cal parks and getting to skate giant stuff like that without having to wear pads or a helmet was rad.  I can’t wait to get back up to the city in the spring when it’s a bit more dry and skate some of the awesome street spots I saw.  Gonna have to remember to bring skate shoes next time though… that was 40 bucks I didn’t need to spend.” – Shane Cox
